Broody Lahaina This is our first hen to go broody. I had to do a google search to figure out what exactly it looked like. What I found were descriptors such as your hen refuse to move, flattening her body, etc. The suggestion is to pick her up and move her away from theContinue reading “Broody Hens and Goat Training”

Escape Artist
We thought we had solved the problem of Aspen sneaking out of her pen this last weekend but this morning she was found wandering around the backyard. Dustin put her back in the pen and went to work. When I came home from work I found Aspen in the chicken part of the barn. AgainContinue reading “Escape Artist”
It is the weekend again and it is too hard to sleep in when I know all the girls want to get out of the barn. I havent completely gotten comfortable of having all the chickens free range day and night. Sadie is the same way in the mornings and helped me open the doorsContinue reading

Little Chickie Update
The little chicks are now 4 1/2 & 8 weeks old. They double in size since we were gone for the week. The chicks are big enough that I moved them out of the brooder and we built them a roosting spot.
Chicken TV
We have come to enjoy the weekend mornings watching the antics of the chickens. We have coined this “chicken tv”. This consists of watching the chickens and everyone in the family taking turns providing commentary. This morning we looked out the window and noticed all the chickens were facing the barn wall. This completly remindedContinue reading “Chicken TV”
MIA
Came home with Eli tonight and the neighbor came over to ask if we were missing a chicken. I started thinking in my head who it might be. She had mentioned one of the black ones. I checked the barn and sure enough one of them was missing. I can never tell who is JackieContinue reading “MIA”
Garden here we come.
